WORLD CLASS DIVING

Tofo is famous for its ocean giants: Humpback Whales, Whale Sharks, Giant Mantas and Dolphins. These creatures are known to frequent the warm, nutrient-rich waters of Mozambique. This area is also blessed with a rich diversity of coral and fish. There are a number of outstanding dive sites in Tofo. At Mozambeats we work with Peri Peri Divers, they are a SSI dive centre with the best instructors, guides and well-maintained equipment. Whale watching with Peri Peri dive charters

Ocean Safari

Each day, Peri Peri Divers has an "Ocean Safari": a 2 hour boat ride with the aim of getting up close and personal with the magnificent Whale Sharks, Giant Mantas and Dolphins that inhabit our waters. For many it is a lifelong dream to swim with these creatures and Tofo is perhaps the most reliable place in the world to be able to offer this truly unforgettable experience!

Although the focus of the Ocean Safari is on these gentle giants, from June to November, there is the chance to watch the migration of the Humpback Whales: a truly magical experience.

No special training is required, this activity is ideal for non-divers who are keen for a relaxed view of Tofo’s fantastic marine life.

Barra Vida introduces a range of boating experiences operating from the beautiful Barra estuary. Trips takes about 4 to 5 hours and includes a snorkel stop.

Highly recommend to take the 'Island Dance' boat with 10 of your besties and do the sunset trip, make sure you bring a camera for the golden hour as it's pretty awesome!.

LEARN TO FREEDIVE

Being under water holding your breath and being "weightless" is a great stress reducer. It helps people relax and be "in the moment". Many freedivers say that the "free" in "freediving" doesn't just mean free of gear, but free from the outside world. It's about inward power, discipline and control.

You’ll complete independent knowledge development about freediving principles with the Freediver Touch before learning breath-hold techniques as well as static and dynamic apnea in a confined water session. In these sessions, you’ll aim to achieve static apnea of 90 seconds and dynamic apnea of 25m (80 feet). This will be followed by open water sessions where you’ll practice free immersion and constant weight freedives as well as proper buddy procedures. In the open water sessions, you’ll be aiming for a constant weight freedive of 10m (30 feet).

SET SAIL ON A TRADITIONAL SAILING BOAT

This cultural day trip starts at nearby White Sands, where you will most likely see some flamingos. You hop on a local sailing boat, called a dhow, and visit 2 islands. You will snorkel in the clear blue waters and see the beautiful shells of Pansy Island. After that you can do an optional village tour to explore the Mozambican culture of Carlos and his family. You will learn a traditional dance, roast cashew nuts, eat matapa and drink coconut beer.
Our head barman Carlos runs this tour. He is on duty in the bar during the day so please chat to him to make a booking.

RELAX, TAKE IT EASY!

If you are looking to live at a much slower pace during your time here, spend a day relaxing by our stunning pool on one of our sun-loungers or seek shade under a cashew tree in one of our hammocks. Spoil yourself and/or your other half with a massage whilst enjoying the amazing sunset from our sunset terrace. We are so lucky to have the most stunning, clean and empty beaches here in Tofo: a long walk down the beach is a must for anyone! We're ideally situated in between the 2 main beaches: Tofo and Tofinho (little Tofo). We're close to Tofinho and Backdoor beach which is the best spot to watch the whales breaching when they're in season (June - November).

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: KITESURFING

Kitesurf Tofo is Tofo's first and only kitesurfing school. You can learn this amazing sport as a beginner or if you're already experienced, you can hire equipment and have fun in Tofo Bay. For beginners, they will take you to the beautiful lagoon in the neighbouring bay of Barra where the water is flat, calm and shallow: the perfect place to learn.

SURF THAT WAVE

Mozambique has a growing reputation as a surfing hot-spot along the east coast of Africa, with superb swells sweeping in from the wide open oceans. Tofo Beach is a great place for beginner and intermediate surfers, with sandy beach breaks allowing you to really master your skills. There's nothing like the exhilaration of catching a wave with playful dolphins along for the ride!

The Surf Shack and Tofo Surf Co directly on Tofo beach provides surfboards and surf lessons from beginners to professionals. If you are ready for a competition, sign up for the next edition of the Tofo Surf Series.

HORSE RIDING ON THE BEACH

Discover Tofo's beaches, riding over the dunes, passing the local villages and the surrounding nature on a horse riding trip of 1.5 hours.

NAMASTE

Yoga, pranayama & meditation with a view of the crystal blue Indian Ocean and a fresh salty breeze. All levels and bodies welcome at 13XO Yoga and at Kumba Lodge . Exhale into that paradise holiday feeling. There is also yoga and often retreats offered in the yoga shala opposite Mozambeats at Turtle Cove. If you wish to do your own yoga flow on our sunset terrace away from the guests, we can provide you with mats.

CATAMARAN SUNSET CRUISE

The ultimate romantic outing. The catamaran cruise is in the bay of Barra. Soak up the beautiful African sunset from the comfort of a 36ft Catamaran.

SNORKELLING FOR SEAHORSES

This is the perfect trip for macro marine life lovers, for non-divers, for young people and families. This beautiful snorkelling trip is in the nearby estuary where you can find many seahorses with the help of an experienced Divemaster. Other amazing creatures to be seen on this trip are sea moths, juvenile frogfish, harlequin shrimps and much more.

LOCAL COOKING CLASS

Immerse yourself into the local community by visiting a home of a Mozambican family and learning how to make delicious Matapa (peanut, coconut and cassava leaf sauce). You will use the equipment that the families use including a huge wooden pestle and mortar to grind the peanuts to make flour and a stool with a serrated blade to shred the coconut flesh. This is a really special trip and a fantastic way to learn more about Mozambican culture off the beaten track.

TAKE A KAYAK

This half day trip takes you kayaking in the protected bay of Barra where you explore the amazing birdlife including flamingos and small marine life living in the mangrove forest. A must do for bird lovers.

Rapidly gaining a reputation as one of the world's best countries for fishing, Mozambique is starting to make the most of its riches. Fishing in Mozambique is pretty much synonymous with Marlin, but also expect to catch tuna, dorado and barracuda.
